Bendigo Amateur Soccer League (BASL) News

Eaglehawk on Top

Eaglehawk have found themselves on top of the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League Women's Championship ladder, after accounting for Golden City 2-nil at Shadforth Park on Sunday.

Whilst many would have thought a more one sided match-up was on the cards, the Golden City back half stood tough all day, and only conceded two goals, which was Eaglehawk's lowest goal scoring tally for the year. Amy Skvarc put in another solid performance for the Borough, who were without star player Maika Ruyter-Hooley, whilst Alish Archbold, and Simone Arman were also solid contributors for the winners. Whilst for Golden City, Kristen O'Connor was a stand out.

Eaglehawk will take on Moama Border Raiders next weekend, in a match that will go a long way to deciding the Championship Title. Moama had the bye this week, and will be ready to go come Sunday.

Strathdale continued on their winning way defeating Epsom 5-nil, to stay in touch with the leaders. The Dikkenberg sisters were again in the heart of the action scoring three out of the teams five goals, whilst Manon Whitechurch was named best for the Blues. Epsom fought out the match well, with big contributions coming from Anthea Nicholson and Rebecca Adams.

Spring made it three wins in a row in the Women's competition with a 5-2 victory over Castlemaine. Spring Gully jumped Castlemaine early, and were 3-nil up within 25 minutes thanks to the play of Ally van Dalen and Jade De Marchi. Castlemaine slowly fought there way back into the contest, and with 20 minutes to go got back to 3-2. However, it was the Spring Gully who then dominated the last 20 minutes of play, and they were able to capitalize on some Castlemaine errors to score two late goals to end the contest 5-2 winners.

Whilst, Colts United put in end to their three game losing streak with a 6-4 win over Swan Hill at Ken Harrison Reserve. In a high scoring contest both teams took their opportunities, with Rebecca Berry scoring two goals for the winners, whilst Erin Raggatt scored a hat trick for the home side, who have shown much improvement over the last 12 months.
